So you’re thinking about starting a home business. Good for you! Starting your own business can be one of the best decisions you ever made - or one of the worst mistakes you ever made!
How can you know how it will work out for you? Even more important, how can you tell whether you’re headed for success or disaster before you invest a lot of time, money, and energy in starting your new business?
Part 1 of this pair of articles explains in more detail why internet affiliate marketing is such a great home business plan. To briefly re-cap, you can successfully make good money with affiliate marketing even if you have no technical computer or internet knowledge, have no advanced education, and have practically no money for starting up your home business. All you need to make money with internet affiliate marketing is a computer, internet access, and the willingness to learn some simple new information, and spend some time on your new home business.
Now - here’s the really central question:
How can you best learn to make money with internet affiliate marketing?
Here are some things I’ve learned the hard (and expensive) way. There are hundreds of products for sale on the internet that promise to teach you how to become extremely wealthy with internet marketing. I’ve bought and tried to use many of them - and often been very disappointed with what I got.
Through my own experiences, I have developed the following suggestions for evaluating whether an affiliate marketing product is likely to really show you how to make a good income before you spend your money on it.
1. See if the product offers a money-back guarantee. If it does, that’s good - but it’s not the whole answer. I’ve found (and bought) products that had great-sounding guarantees, but actually getting a refund of my money was basically impossible (email addresses that no longer worked, no response to my request until the guarantee period had passed, etc.).
2. Look for products that are sold through ClickBank. Never heard of ClickBank? Don’t worry - they are widely regarded as being the internet’s premier seller of informational products. ClickBank enforces an 8-week, no-questions-asked, 100% refund of the purchase price for any product you buy through them. Even if the product owner wouldn’t honor your refund request, ClickBank would step in and enforce their guarantee.
3. Don’t be taken in by sales pitches full of images of mansions, huge yachts, and stacks of money. While it is completely true that people can (and actually have) become independently wealthy through internet affiliate marketing, it doesn’t happen overnight.
4. Don’t fall for promises of “raking in insane amounts of money” for only pushing a couple of computer buttons, and working half an hour per day. It just doesn’t happen like that. It is certainly possible to build an internet affiliate marketing business that will bring in lots of money, but you need to be realistic about the fact that you will need to invest time and effort in your business.
5. It is not enough for the “how-to” product’s owner to have become rich with affiliate marketing. Not everyone who knows how to do something exceptionally well also knows how to explain it to someone who is just trying to get started. Look for products with simple, clearly written sales information that sounds like you could also easily understand the information you would get.
6. Some affiliate marketing “how-to” products offer previews on their websites of what you get if you buy the product. This is a good way to get a feeling for whether you will be able to actually use the information you buy. If previews are offered on a sales website, take the time to actually look at all of them.
7. This may be the hardest of all to evaluate, but try to get a “feeling” about the sales information you are reading. Does the author sound “hype-y,” or do you get the feeling that you’re getting pretty straight information?
It’s not a total jungle out there. You just need to spend some time deciding whether a product seems to offer genuine promise to you in helping you meet your home business goals.
